-Took 2 gap years. Volunteered with the Northwestern Medicine Scholars Program which aims to encourage and educate select high school students from the CPS system for a future life in college, the sciences, and medicine. Also, worked as a research technician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was involved in uterine tumor and infertility clinical research.
Enjoying life in medical school so far although I am completely undecided on a specialty as of now. I have gotten involved in various shadowing programs such as APEP (shadow Anesthesiologists), volunteering opportunities like STEPS (Pediatric inpatient floor), and electives like Medical Spanish.
Outside of medical school I enjoy my apartment neighborhood of Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village/West Town. I play soccer in the city a few days a week and dabble on the piano here and there. Other free time activities include just enjoying what Chicago has to offer whether that be food, drink, sports, museums, art, etc.
I remember how lost and bewildered I felt while entering my undergraduate education looking forward long-term towards medical school. Looking back there are definitely a few things I would have done differently and many things I wish that I had known. From strategic class scheduling and selection, studying abroad options, undergraduate research and volunteering, and especially the MCAT and medical school application process it is difficult to know how to best represent yourself, your intentions, interests, and passions in a way that is conducive to application committees. Please just let me know if there is anyway I may be able to help you!
