Mentoring, Advising
My name is Kristen and I am a 1st year medical student. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2016. I majored in biology and psychology. After college, I traveled Europe before entering medical school.
Hi all! Happy you have decided to start exploring the pathway of medicine. A little about why I want to be a mentor: No one in my family had applied to medical school, so the application process was quite an eye opener for me. Additionally, the pre-meds at my university (Wisconsin-Madison) were competitive and not super friendly. I went into the application process completely blind. However, I used my resources and somehow made it to Stritch. I would love to help anyone in a similar position figure out how to get into medical school. Doing it alone was challenging, and no one should have to do that. My background: I was a biology and psychology major in undergad, and I took the direct path to medical school. I volunteered at a Domestic Abuse Shelter, the Children's museum, and the University hospital. I did research for 3 years in the psychiatry clinic at school on sleep and consciousness. I have shadowed pediatricians, family medicine doctors, and neurologists. I danced, did water sports, and explored nature in my spare time. I also am very good at replying to texts.
