Mentoring, Advising, and Shadowing
Hi! My name is Frank Ospino, and I am a second year medical student. I graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2013. I majored in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Cell and Developmental Biology. After college, I worked at Stanford University School of Medicine as a research assistant doing stem cell and cardiovascular research. I moved to Houston, Texas where I continued my research at the Houston Methodist Hospital under the same mentor until I entered medical school. I also enjoyed many clinical/hospital experiences along the way. Do not hesitate to ask. I hope to hear from you.
At the moment, I am thinking about specializing in either surgery or cardiovascular medicine or something that combines the two. Though my interests may change as I go through medical school, I am certain that I want to practice in an Academic Medicine environment where I will have the opportunity to practice medicine as a physician, conduct research as a scientist, and teach medical students as a professor. In medical school, I am involved in many interest groups and elective courses. I try to be very involved in the mentoring/education groups at the medical school where I can help aspiring medical students (high school and college pre-med) take the right steps and make the right decisions so that they can live their dream of becoming a doctor. I am also Vice President of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), which is very important to me as a person of Latino/Hispanic ethnicity. Outside of school, I try to make time for family, friends, and of course, myself. I enjoy sports (watching, playing, fantasy football, etc.), movies (weekly movies nights), videogames (Call of Duty with friends), and nature (hikes and camping trips). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about applying to medical school, taking a (or a few) gap year(s), balancing school with outside interests, academic medicine/research, or anything else. I hope to hear from you.
