Mentoring and Advising
My name is Ian Haseltine. I am currently an M4 medical student at the Stritch School of Medicine in the class of 2019. It is important to me that undergraduate students have an opportunity to understand the application process and have equal opportunities to best represent themselves in this difficult journey. I did not attend my first undergraduate college course until the age of 26. It is my belief that with age comes wisdom. For me, this wisdom is the result of owning and operating a business, volunteering in hospice care, working in prosthetics fabrication and fitting, participating in research at UIC's department of transplant surgery, running marathons, and more. I hope to use these experiences to help others accomplish the incredible goal of participating in a career in medicine.
It is important to me that undergraduate students have an opportunity to understand the application process and have equal opportunities to best represent themselves in this difficult route to medical school. Following my acceptance to several schools, I was invited to speak at Illinois Pre-Health Day, where I shared my experience and application tips with a room full of eager pre-health students. So, it is possible you have even heard me speak before! As an undergraduate student, I was considered unconventional. I did not attend my first undergraduate college course until the age of 26.
